THE GOLDEN BOOTS Formé en 2002 par Dimitri Manos et Ryen Eggleston la musique Lo-fi de Golden Boots emprunte autant au Folk qu’à la Pop Rock américaine. Un trio enregistrant de manière stakhanoviste des éléments de chansons, testant sans cesse leur formule au gré de leurs déjà huit albums, pour des sons allant de la disco-country à des relectures lo-fi de mélodies pop qui sonnent diablement dansantes. Sous les chemises brodées, des corps qui ne veulent qu’onduler. Plus que du décalage culturel, c’est une sortie de route mirifique pour la musique de cette bande de desperados. Un savant mélange de je-m’en-foutisme de professionnels prenant un malin plaisir à semer des indices pour toujours nous prendre à rebrousse-poil. ➤ THEE VERDUNS (Metz, FR) Thee Verduns c'est l'odeur de la poudre quand le coup de feu est parti et que le tir est raté: une guitare amputée, un banjo désaccordé, une batterie marteau-piqueur et des chants des bayous de la Moselle. ➤ GABRIEL NAÏM AMOR (Tucson, USA) Après plus d'une décennie à graviter dans l'underground français - notamment comme guitariste des très cultes Witches Valley - Gabriel Naïm Amor quitte en 1997 son Paris natal pour les paysages de cactus saguaro de l'Arizona, en quête de poussière du désert à infiltrer dans son avant-pop cinématographique. Peu après avoir emménagé à Tucson, il forme Amor Belhom Duo avec le batteur Thomas Belhom, projet qui donnera naissance à deux albums, un disque live - en compagnie de Valérie Leulliot (Autour de Lucie) - et 'Tête-à-Tête', en quartet avec Joey Burns & John Convertino (Calexico). Depuis le milieu des années 2000, il a publié pas moins de douze albums dont le plus récent, ’Stories’, sortira au printemps sur Fort Lowell Records. En parallèle, il compose également pour le cinéma et la télévision - dont les multi-primés documentaires 'Precious Knowledge' et 'I Learn America’.

Ce mois-ci, En Traits Libres reçoit Thee Verduns, groupe dont fait partie Nicolas Moog, un auteur maison des éditions 6 Pieds sous terre. En plus, ils amènent avec eux le groupe Golden Boots, from Tucson, Arizona. La classe ! Les deux groupes seront en tournée à l’occasion de la parution du split 33 tours publié par Kizmiaz Records (Nantes) réunissant les deux orchestres. Une soirée pop-folk-garage qu’elle va être bien.

Leur son prouve que ce qui est souvent étiqueté à tort comme de l’hyperactivité peut être un mélange unique de punk obscur et d’énergie débridée. Feromil Silhouette mutante à trompe arcboutée sur un détecteur de métaux, Feromil ne cherche pas le métal, il l’explore. Il en extirpe le chant et nous y abîme.

Club Congress 7pm $10 Benefit for Centro Pazifico For several years now, Camino Común, a Colombia solidarity project organized by Raquel Mogollón, and the People’s Human Rights Observatory (an international human rights network) have worked with AURACOL (Colombian Association for Agrarian Unification and Reorganization), a union of rural farmers in the town of Sevilla, and UBUNTPAZ, a local organization in Buenaventura, Colombia, to develop opportunities for their member families. AURACOL is also part of REDFIC (Francisco Isaias Cifuentes Human Rights Network), which operates the Centro Pazífico center in Cali. We are working with all these organizations to plan a delegation to the area in May with two objectives. One is to put a roof on and further rehabilitate a building for a prospective school to serve the children of AURACOL at their collective farm. The other is a neighborhood clean up and beautification project organized by UBUNTPAZ for a children’s center in Nayita, one of Buenaventura’s neediest barrios. The benefit is to buy the tools and materials for these projects, all of which will be left with the respective organizations when the delegation has finished its work. Both AURACOL and UBUNTPAZ are in a part of Colombia that registers the highest rates of political violence in the country. AURACOL is a labor organization of farmers and farm workers. Its leaders and supporters are under constant threat from local paramilitary groups and narcotraffickers. Buenaventura, where UBUNTPAZ is located, is the largest port on Colombia’s Pacific coast, a city that is more than 85% Afro-Colombian, and one of the poorest areas of the nation, despite the megaprofits being made by the port. We will be working with the UBUNTPAZ children’s center in Nayita and its recycling program that gathers plastic waste and turns it into park benches, playground equipment, and more. The center plays an important role in providing education and opportunities to local youth and alternatives to the heavy recruitment by paramilitaries and narcotraffickers. Supporting these projects is an important contribution to peace and an end to the armed conflicts in the region that have caused so many problems for these organizations and the populations they serve and represent.

Elf Power adds a Tucson show on their "Artifical Countrysides" Tour, with support from us: Golden Boots. Athens, GA-based psychedelic folk band Elf Power is on tour in support of their first new album in more than five years, "Artificial Countrysides". Praised by Stereogum, Under The Radar and BrooklynVegan, who said “It finds their unique psychedelic pop/indie rock fusion sounding as great as ever,” the band’s 14th album in an almost 30-year career centers around the gray zones where the natural world collides with the creeping encroachment of the digital realm, where the balance between real and simulated can shift from one minute to the next. “That title also describes the songwriting process, of world-building or creating an artificial landscape within a song,” explains Rieger. Golden Boots, joined by Tristan Jemesk on drums and Clay Koweek on pedal steel, will be performing their last show until this fall. 21+ No cover, but we will be asking donations for the touring bands 🙂
